Plane

In mathematics, a plane is a flat surface. In design, planes are shapes that have been combined to create three-dimensional structures.

An example of plane in design is the linear skeleton of Gerrit Rietveld’s Red and Blue Chair which clearly defines three-dimensional space. It is a set of intersecting elements in a cohesive structure.

As well, windows are planar elements which contain a space within its own environment. Looking from the inside-out and the outside-in are two completely different experiences.
